Welcome back to my birth year 1962 for BH4 #1962! Surprisingly many great things happen in 1962 as well as many terrible things.

+ After a 5 year pause…US tested 31 nuclear bombs and USSR tested many as well. Even UK tested a nuke (in US)

+ The Cuban missile crisis last less than a month, but brought the world to the brink of destruction. USSR Khrushchev removed their bombs from Cuba and US JFK removed ours from Turkey. JFK also got sang Happy Birthday Mr President by Marilyn Monroe

+ The US X-15 flew over 4100 mph over Mach 5 over 67 miles high

+ Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth 3 times in less than 5 hours and US launches Relay 1 communications satellite… if we only knew!

+ US Ranger spacecraft crash lands on the Moon, a laser beam is bounced off the Moon, and Ranger 4 crash lands on the dark side of the moon…on purpose

+ The Rolling Stones and Beatles form and have 1st concerts, Tony Bennett makes Carnegie Hall debut, and Osmond Brothers debut on the Andy Williams Show

+ Cubby Checker’s the Twist goes to #1 and is banned from Catholic Schools for being “impure”

+ The Manchurian Candidate starring Frank Sinatra, To Kill a Mockingbird starring Gregory Peck, and Lawrence of Arabia starring Peter O’Toole were released

+ Johnny Carson host his first Tonight show, The Jetsons started the first color TV series, and Walter Cronkite begins anchoring CBS News

+ Jack Nicklaus started pro golf, finished 50th in Jan, then beat Arnold Palmer by 3 strokes in 1st title in June

+ Sam Walton opens 1st Walmart, Eye of the Needle restaurant revolves on top of the Space Needle, and Danny Thomas opens 1st St. Jude’s Hospital

+ Mississippi Governor refuses first black student and Kennedy sends 3000 federal troops to University of Mississippi to quell riots protesting desegregation

+ Saudi Arabia abolished slavery (bout time), Jamaica becomes independent after 300 years of British rule (Ya Mon), and Adolf Eichmann is executed in Israel for WWII crimes
